VITA in Brockton, MA at Self Help, Inc. - Free Preparation of Federal and Massachusetts State Income Tax Returns
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax help to people who generally make around $67,000 or less, including persons with disabilities, the elderly and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to individuals and families. We can help with past unfiled tax returns (2023, 2022, 2021).

WALK-IN'S ARE WELCOME - You can walk-in without an appointment and we will do our best to provide service.
DUE TO THE INCREASE OF ATTEMPTED FRAUDULENT RETURNS, OUR PROCESS HAS CHANGED. WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING VIRTUAL TAX PREPARATION, YOU MUST WALK IN TO OUR SITE AND WE WILL SETUP YOUR PORTAL ACCOUNT. NO appointment required, walk-in to the site on Saturday between 8 am - 12 pm, we will set up your portal and review your intake form. You may return the next week for an in-person review and to sign and pick up your completed return.

WE ARE OPEN: Saturdays at 8:30 am - WE CLOSE: 2:00 pm
[Please keep in mind our doors close at 1:30 pm in order to complete work prior to closing at 2:00]
EVERY TAX RETURN PREPARED BY A VITA (VOLUNTEER INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE) SITE MUST FOLLOW THESE STEPS:
- Taxpayer completes an Intake Form
- The return is prepared by an appropriate IRS-certified volunteer preparer (based on complexity of return)
- The return is then reviewed with the taxpayer
- Any needed corrections/changes are made
- The taxpayer signs the returns, and leaves the site with the printed copies.
- The returns are e-filed the same day.
IN-PERSON BY APPOINTMENT: We offer in-person tax preparation, you may schedule an appointment by clicking here: SCHEDULE APPOINTMENT
IN-PERSON NO APPOINTMENT: We offer in-person tax preparation without an appointment on a highly limited basis, unfortunately, there are usually long wait times and we cannot guarantee service. We will do our best.
DROP-OFF/PICK-UP: Come to the site on SATURDAY between 8 am - 12 pm to complete an intake sheet, then we will scan your documents. You can then walk in the following Saturday and you will review your return, if all is correct, we will print and then you can sign your tax returns.
